Definition: To train or develop by instruction and exercise especially in self control.
Discipline IS, not might, the single most important characteristic, quality, or trait that any individual can practice. Discipline is the act of saying no, not only to other individuals like your friends and family but yourself. Saying no to yourself is the hardest thing that you could practice at any moment in time. Saying no to that extra piece of bread, saying no to that impulse buy, saying no to partying on a Tuesday night, saying no to drugs the list goes on and on.
Discipline is not something that you pick up overnight either, it is not a switch you can turn on and off willingly, it is not inherited. It is a trait that is learned, practiced and executed over most likely a substantial period of time and encounters many failures and breaks of discipline. With that said it is essential that you being training it yesterday, not even today, yesterday. Down the road it is what is going to keep you going when you have no motivation. It is going to keep you on the hard path even though there is a bridge to easy path coming up. It is the trait that is going to set you apart from the rest, make you great, make people want to be like you have possess your abilities. Not because of your wealth, or your success, your discipline. Your ability to say to yourself "I have to get this done right now, and I may not eat until it is done even if it takes me a week."
Familiarize yourself with people who have great deals of discipline, learn from them, watch what they do and how. And begin practicing the same, if you have an assignment due at midnight but you want to play video games for two hours, guess what, the games can wait and when you are done with your assignment you may have the rest of the night to play. You have a report due for work by the end of the week and it may be 10 hours of work, well get that done on Monday and that opens your schedule to go above and beyond for four days. By Friday, you will be four days ahead of all your coworkers. Discipline, learn it, embrace it, live it.
